Pest Problem: Need Containment Advice
So the third, disgusting member of our appartment was discovered to have had a bedbug infestation in his bedroom, and only his bedroom. Aside from washing every piece of clothing in there, is there a relatively effective way to contain them to JUST that room? Anything? Right now we just have a masking tape barrier across the carpet at the entrance to his room but I doubt thatll do much.
Any suggestions to hold out till the pest control guy comes back to nuke the place?

Keep the room either very hot or very cold. Bedbugs don't like extreme temperature much.

For most insects bleach is great.
If you get a thing of bleach and scrub/spill a thing of it infront of the entrance to a doorway they won't want to take that path.
(may just be for ants though since it's a good way to get rid of their pheromone paths so you hault their invasion.

The whole "kill them with fire" idea did pass our minds several times I will admit.

My first thought was indeed "burn it all and start over".
(maybe wait for your roommate to go to sleep before starting)

Just whatever you do, do not under any circumstances move tainted furniture out of the quarantined area. A lot of people's first reactions is to throw out infested furniture, but they invariably end up spreading the bed bugs, and once they're in the walls, you're fucked.

Roaches are natural predators of bedbugs, so you should just release a bunch of them into your place

All weve done so far is throw out a bed sheet which was thoroughly covered. However we placed that tainted item into a garbage bag and sealed it INSIDE the room. The main concern of it spreading however is our cat, who frequently likes to go in there to sleep, as the clutter and piles of clothes everywhere offers him lots of places to hide/sleep. Just gotta keep him out of that room to prevent any would be hitchhikers from catching a ride on kitty.
But yeah, gonna pick up some bleach powder today (or try to) and just coat the floor around the entrance to the quarantined room. See if that slows them down.

Re: Pest Problem: Need Containment Advice
I'd also suggest the lice treatment, which is bag everything for a few months.

Re: Pest Problem: Need Containment Advice
They do, the exterminators use dogs to pick up the scent of bedbugs to confirm if they are there or not (very difficult to see a bed bug and they hide quite well).
Re: Pest Problem: Need Containment Advice
Im talking about cats though. cause that might explain why ours has been acting weird and almost.....obsessive with that room over the last few months.

Re: Pest Problem: Need Containment Advice
Cats can probably smell it as well. I just know they use dogs since they can be trained to tell you when you ask. A cat would just tell you to go fuck yourself.
