XCOM: Enemy Unknown
I'm not good at the whole game reviewing thing, so I'll just dump some info on you followed by my thoughts.
The game is a TBS. After logging 12 hours on the first day, I can't really say the game is anything other than fantastic (by my standards). Considering how this was an impulse buy and I had no prior knowledge or experience with the series, I surprised even myself with my bout of academic negligence. The game is well presented; the audio is there with radio chatter, ambient noise, and some fairly good music. Visually, even on the lowest graphical settings the game looks good, and I don't think I will ever get tired of the cut-scenes/cinematic sequences that occur in game (camera view switches to third person focused on the unit executing its actions), like watching my soldiers kick down doors or burst through windows. Hell, even watching snipers line up their shots is entertaining. XCOM, although it isn't a very complex TBS(friends of mine have compared it to Fire Emblem while watching me play), still offers enough options and customization with your units to make up for that. Overall, a very good game so far.
It is however worth noting that there is the occasional camera glitch, and sometimes movement can be a pain due to lack of clear vision. Expect to rage every now and then due to bad rolls as well.
Some music and screenshots for you (screenies are mine : D)
PRO
Modern TBS
Colorful Graphics
Good Audio
Fun Multiplayer/Gameplay
CON
Small squad size cap, even in multiplayer
Limited number of multiplayer maps
Multiplayer is limited to 1v1

How would you rate the base-building experience? I played the demo, but there it was constrained and actually made me worry about it somewhat.

It's very basic but important... running out of money/staff is constantly a problem.Tylertlat wrote:How would you rate the base-building experience? I played the demo, but there it was constrained and actually made me worry about it somewhat.

Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown
I can only imagine the best way to play this is with personally naming and customizing every member of your team...

Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown
So I played it for a couple hours. VERY fun.
I've been naming and customizing all my soldiers for a more personal connection. My first and only KIA so far was Taylor Swift in the mission where you rescue the first person. She got hit with 2 very low probability attacks in a single turn.
I've also learned how to maximize the use of my 2 Assaulters by being super risky with them and just charge straight into whatever building the aliens are in.

Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown
So did you feel like XCOM was too easy and needed more options to be make it harder? No? Firaxis apparently thought so.
