I personally thought it was just as good as the second. The plot was as thick and the stakes were higher to keep things fresh. It lost a little bit of the psychological flare that came with the joker, but Bane's attempt at political justification helped fill that void nicely.

The structure was kind of weird, but the plot was really good.
I don't think it quite lives up to The Dark Knight though...

so does anyone know where the series is going from here?
Robin finding the batcave points at a sequel but I could have sworn this was supposed to be the last movie in the series.

I would love to see Nolan do the rest of the Justice league since then a Justice league movie could come out and batman could be the main character in that

They are rebooting the series and completely starting over from scratch.
DC saw how well the Avengers did and want to make a Justice League movie but Nolan's Batman is to dark for it.
Also making a new Superman movie with a reboot. Undoubtedly their will be a flash and wonder woman movie at some point. Don't know if they will just keep the Green Lantern or what.
Fucking great logic to "Oh yeah, The Batman movie Nolan made was the number 4 highest money making movie IN THE ENTIRE GOD DAMN WORLD EVER but we should definitely reboot it and start over with a new story and director so more people will like it in this new series."

Nolan already has said that Batman was going to be the only DC character he did stuff for. He was offered to do Justice League stuff, and refused, IIRC.
He also said that DKR was his last Batman film, so no more for him, even after leaving all that at the end

He's not doing Man of Steel. Zach Snyder is. Nolan is only producing it.
Well, there technically wasn't a Robin in his series if you think about it.
Okay. That whole thing about the Joker needs to be understood. Nolan did not mention the Joker in DKR out of respect for Heath Ledger. And even if he isn't mentioned, it can be assumed he was kept locked up in Asylum since he would be a wildcard for the bad guy's plans.
