: Have you competed in Forensic Speaking/Acting or Academic Track?
Forensics or Academic Track
So i was at a talent show Tuesday, and the air was saturated with the unmistakable feel of performance preparation. THis made me nostalgic for my high school forensics days and my middle school Academic track days, but most people there didn't know what those even were and no one had done it themselves. So I thought i'd ask you guys what your backgrounds in this matter are. Honestly, I'll be happily suprides if any of you know have a clue what I'm talking about...

I flirted briefly with Debate and Forensics as a highschool freshman. It wasn't for me.

Re: Forensics or Academic Track
Academic track is an elementary and middle school team competion. There are two groups, stage and testing. Each team member has to be in a testing event, and can be in up to three events. Testing is, nondramatically, just competitive test taking in various catagories. Stage is a competitive variety show, with events like Boy's Trio, Girls Quartet, impromptu humorous skit, ect.
Scoring is the same as a track meet, hence the name.
Forensic Speaking and Acting is (primarily high school and university, though middle school and elementary teams exist) also a school team competition. The categories are broadcasting, drama interpretation, duo interpretation, extemporaneous speaking, impromptu speaking, informative speaking, multiple interpretation, oratory, poetry interpretation, prose interpretation, sales speaking, and storytelling.

I would do Academic Track, because that seems more interesting than speaking.

Re: Forensics or Academic Track
I did Academic Track one year. It was mildly interesting, but it involved social interaction with other people without causing physical harm to said people, so I gave it up for hobbies that better suited me. Like murder.
Re: Forensics or Academic Track
To everyone who said that they did either completion, what events did you do? To start it off, I did Testing:Ancient History, Stage: Impromptu Skit, and Stage: Keyboard for Academic Track and Extemp and Impromptu for 4N6.

Re: Forensics or Academic Track
I did Policy Debate this year.
I finished in the finals of two national tournaments in Philadelphia and won my high school's home tournament. At the end of the year me and my partner were the 6th or 7th best team in the state. I traveled as far as Atlanta for the Emory University Invitational Debate Tournament but also went to Wake Forest for their tournament.
All of that is well and good but the truth of the matter is that all of my awards and accomplishments mean nothing. The experience I got and confidence I gained for my public speaking skills cannot be understated.
So yes, I did some form of forensics.

Yeah, I wish I had more time with it. I feel like I could have won a few more tournaments if I had joined a little bit earlier.
We're you involved in Policy/CX as well?
