Re: Fallout 3 or New Vegas?
I love almost everything New Vegas added to the franchise, plus the story in my opinion was better in NW. Even hardcore mode believe it or not.
However there's still a few things i like about Fallout 3, The random encounter system for instance i loved, (which new Vegas lacked), The radio was better in all counts, (Save black mountain radio in NW but that had a really small signal area). Plus despite it being horrendously overpowered the perk system in Fallout 3 i preferred (perks every level mean i can make my character a serious bouss) In terms of difficulty i consider fallout 3 more so than in new Vegas, i have literally punched the legendary death claw to death with a pair of brass knuckles on hard mode. In fallout 3 you can run into a death claw almost anywhere (and thanks to the broken DT system, they can really fuck your day up on very hard)
Also i prefer the setting of Fallout 3, being in Washington DC which has been blown to hell and back gives more of a nice wasteland field than new vegas, New vegas plays much different since most of the raider encounters you would have, have been replaced by faction ones, which make you feel less like a badass hero and more of a hired gun. (unless your going house/yesman) in which case you feel like an asshole considering how fleshed out they make some of the characters (save the legion) and actually make you pissed there's no way to get around just convincing them to join you (House wants to kill the brotherhood of steel and thus must die) also maybe i just prefer fallout 3 because i have almost a month in playtime logged into it. (almost as much as morrowind)

Re: Fallout 3 or New Vegas?
They're both fucking great imo, but Dragoon sums it up pretty neatly.
I recommend getting Fallout 3, then saving up for New Vegas and getting that.

Re: Fallout 3 or New Vegas?
New Vegas forced players to play a linear game in an open world environment. It wasn't bad, but I want to have the choice to be my own man in an open-world RPG. Plus I felt the scenery in New Vegas was far more monotonous than Fallout 3 (and especially when compared to Oblivion IMO).
Re: Fallout 3 or New Vegas?
New Vegas did an alright job with the locale, i wasn't expected mushroom forests or a massive swamp in the mojave desert and the nearby rockies. they could have made New vegas look better though (outer vegas and freeside anyway) as most of it just looked like they cleared the rubble out of one of the DC cells from F3 (and put some pretty lights up)

I particularly liked New Vegas over Fallout 3. Don't know why though. Fallout 3 was still amazing though.

I prefer New Vegas over Fallout 3 mainly because I've played it a lot more than F3.

What game were you playing? I literally didn't go to Vegas until like lvl17 because I wanted money.

Re: Fallout 3 or New Vegas?
That would have been the case, except I found out about halfway in that any weapons on my companions are gone forever and ED-E bugs and won't move on his own anymore. Had to drop back to a save some four quests back. Really pissed me off.
Re: Fallout 3 or New Vegas?
Yea, New vegas really sucks if you arent prepared for horrible bugs, Thats why i dropped a save at the lucky 38 at the end of every quest walkthrough style.

Isn't that a feature of most Obsidian Entertainment games?

With patches, mods and DLC NV is a new game. It's spectacular.
Honest Hearts is one of the best stories I've ever seen in an expansion.

Re: Fallout 3 or New Vegas?
Fallout 3 was my first fallout game, so it'll always have that going for it. I also love that by just wandering North from the start, I inadvertently skipped some missions, and the game had the extra dialog and stuff to deal with it. (Whereas wandering North from the start in NV results in death). It's funny that FO:NV tries to force you on physical path but lets you determine the story, while FO3 lets you determine the physical path from the get go but forces you into a certain ending.
I second this.Nocbl2 wrote:

Re: Fallout 3 or New Vegas?
i went north in nv and was able to kill one of the gaint radscorpin's but my weapon was so damaged i had to turn around. only reason i went that way was cause one of the viewers wanted to see if i could do it
