That's got to be the best thing that's happened to the gaming industry since the release of the Atari.

from a marketing standpoint, it makes sense why they would do it... at this point the game has been out long enough that it is probably not selling well, microtransactions in game were probably about the only profit they were making from it. Now, they have just opened the floodgates to that revune stream. not only will people who probably wouldn't have played the game now play, but people who used to play will likely come back for a chance to play with their friends.

pretty much valve is going to get tons of free money for this. this was an act of genius

I wish EA and Activision would finally learn that you can make money AND be nice to the community AT THE SAME TIME.

It also makes people more willing to get Steam. Valve is going to make lots of money in the long run. Genius.

Adverts before every match = The price of a hat.

Luckily Valve prove their decency once again by making sure the advert doesn't interfere with game play, making it an audio advert and not a video one.

and people who bought the game get a Mk.II Brodie helmet

Valve some how made the game free and pleased me at the same time.

Valve is the number two Game Developer i'd submit myself two if the companies took over the world, right behind Bioware.


Starting to give them a run for their money though.
