People are stupid(Fuel Doctor Scam)
So I was just chilling watching TV when a commercial came on for this piece of shit called the Fuel Doctor. Something you just plug into your cigarrette lighter, no other hastle, that can amazingly boost your MPG by up to 25%! (If you dont see what is wrong with this claim at this point you are one of the stupid people).
**Note - Sorry if the language offends you
Alot of dumb people appeared to have bought this. I think that they are stupid.
I just wanted to voice my displeasure as to the existence of such POS(also how its being sold in stores), and even more so to the stupidity of alot of people in general. Sure, some who bought it prob wanted to go and prove that they didn't work, but im certain alot believed the ad.
Furthermore, how did this get an ad on the air when it is clearly BS?

This is why you have to be very careful when you listen to the lingo when somebody tries to sell you something. Like over here a lot of the modbile phone companies here advertise "Super Fast Broadband with speeds up to 20 MB".
What they don't tell you is it's very unlikely you'll ever have that and it's more realistically more like 8MB.
They don't flat out lie to you, they just don't reveal the complete truth either.

I took a marketing class in highschool, and after that, all these word tricks started becoming EXTREMELY apparent in every ad i saw.

You hear it in Geico commercials too. "Up to 15% or more!"

But up to 15 or more is any number whatsoever...

Re: People are stupid(Fuel Doctor Scam)
Mkay, the power running from the battery to the injection/spark computers is DC, no matter what. "Cleaning" the energy that goes to the computers is absolute nonsense: There's nothing to clean. If it was a voltage regulator, it would need sensors in several different parts of the engine and a direct return line to the battery. Not only is that not supplied with a cigarette lighter, but the cigarette lighter is probably on a different system from the computers.PiEdude wrote:...why is it BS?
And, as the article Seath supplied states, the voltage meter is faulty.

Re: People are stupid(Fuel Doctor Scam)
The 'clean' energy concept is as Rasq put it, "absolute nonsense". At most the device could regulate the current in the circuit but as the link in the topic post states, it doesn't even do that. In fact, all it does is take up space and sap energy to light up the LED's.
Lets assume that it actually did regulate the voltage (which should already be somewhat stable). One major issue is that it plugs into the cigarette lighter. From my knowledge, these are on their own circuits, so all it would be doing is regulating the circuit its on, accomplishing nothing. I also seriously doubt that the computers would be part of that circuit. If it were, I believe that the computers already have built in regulators to ensure they get a steady supply.
Lets go a bit further and say that it DID work, and that it 'cleaned' the energy and regulated the supplies. Would it improve efficiency? A little bit, but the percentages claimed are completely absurd.

Re: People are stupid(Fuel Doctor Scam)
it wouldn't really be able to do anything, unless it just like cut the total amount of power on the accessories by a huge amount. (ie turns them off)
But even turning off your air conditioner and radio doesn't give you much mpg, but a few miles per tank.
it would have a higher probability of actually making everything worse.
