Is it backwards compatible with PS2 and PS1 games? I heard only the MGS 4 edition were, which is kind of shit if that's true.

Depends on the version of the system you have, but all of them are compatible with some games at least.

the big ones are full backwards compatibility (or near full) but the slims aren't.
