Should it be allowed?
Arguments in the Debate Section
If arguments were not allowed the following rules should be implemented;
If arguments were allowed the forum would be...
a debate forum.
- You must agree with everyone. No exceptions
- You can not give your opinion unless it matches the opinion of the person above you. Conflicting opinions will cause an argument.
- You may not be aggressive in any way. This includes stating your opinion in a powerful manner to prove your point. We all know that when we are aggressive it only causes more aggression.
If arguments were allowed the forum would be...
a debate forum.

Re: Arguments in the Debate Section
I'm not going to vote, because as much as I would like us to not argue in every thread, it just won't happen. The mods would have to change and become nazi's, which is why we even came to this forum.
It boils down to people needing to change how they act, which I don't think will be happening any time soon.

Re: Arguments in the Debate Section
I'm sorry, I wasn't clear in my post. I was talking about arguments in the debate section. That's what the topic title says does it not?
And also, no calling people names, that causes aggression which leads to more aggression. If you want people to stop arguing in the forums maybe you should show some initiative and start yourself.

Re: Arguments in the Debate Section
If you're talking about the debate section those "rules" kind of suck. No giving opinions unless it matches the one above yours? That sounds redundant.
Well nice try, but the arguments will live on regardless.

Yeah, it's pretty obvious. This is what I get for trying to shut you fools up and stop you from constantly bickering. And I think that slight insult was justified, given that this thread is blatant defamation of me.

Okay so if you get pissed of its okay for people to bicker and insult, but if we get pissed of we are immature and constantly bickering.

Amazing.
A thread about stopping argument in the Debate Section...has boiled down into arguing about arguing in the Debate Section...

No.
Opinions and debate are the cornerstone of democracy.
Sure people argue, but if we all just agreed and had all the same opinion it would be fucking boring.

Re: Arguments in the Debate Section
Leafy, I think the proper direction to take with a thread like this would be to say that we should regulate the way we argue in the debate section.
We should try not the get hung up on personal insults, or semantic issues. We should try to be more civil, and less immature in our debating. We shouldn't let things go too far, and develop grudges. We should instead respect those with which we argue.
How's that? To suggest that we shouldn't argue at all in the debates section is just dumb...

Re: Arguments in the Debate Section
Alright, apparently the sarcasm of this thread wasn't noticed.
Ziggy popped into a debate thread and said we shouldn't argue and we were trying to tell him that's what a debate was. He wouldn't hear it and called us incompetent and immature.
This was an extreme situation to show that you need to argue to have a debate. Something Ziggy didn't quite understand. Yeah others tried to come in and back Ziggy up by trying to state what he really meant but Ziggy never did.
If he wanted to complain about people arguing all over the forum then he should have brought it up in an argument that wasn't in the debate section. His logic makes no sense.
Now since this is all out of the bag and it has been established that this was a sarcastic thread. Just leave it alone and not worry about it.

Well an extreme such as taking away everyone's opinions is kinda sarcastic enough. I'm not a communist.

Re: Arguments in the Debate Section
Leafy, why are you now pretending to represent my opinion? You don't actually know what you're talking about. What I said on a number of occasions, and in posts even before this debate thread incident, is that everybody on this forum as a whole, and across all boards, argues too much and creates conflict out of almost everything when it's unnecessary. I don't know how many times I need to say this. I never explicitly said "no arguing" or "no arguing in the debate thread". The more implicit message behind it was "don't argue every single fucking point just for the sake of arguing".
And to Vigil, I agree, we need arguing and debate. But this isn't arguing for the sake of gaining or development. This is entirely unnecessary arguing over petty issues, and trying to create arguments out of things that don't need them. It causes hostility, it creates enmity, and just ruin a lot of threads.
I think this may as well be my last post on the topic, because most of the people here fail to realise that they argue so irrationally and frequently, and think that I'm just talking shit by saying that they argue too much.

Re: Arguments in the Debate Section
We already argue in the debate section. Banning arguing will only kill the section and what would we have left to do? Mafia and Halo only goes so far.
Besides, aside from the scientific method (which doesn't really work with moral issues), I find debating to be the best way to learn. So long as you do not try to attack your opponent personally, I see no problem with arguments.

Nobody in their right mind would enter a drawing contest against you.
