The BIG LIST of HW Unit-Counter's, Strategy Counter's, and other random shit.
Okay. I have noticed that ALOT of people seem to have problems when it comes to using the correct unit for the job. This thread is for reference on what units to use for what(more importantly AGAINST what) and how to counter those strategies alot of people have problems with(such as hog spamming).
Notice something missing? Just say and it will be added.*NOTE - WIP, not yet complete untill this note is removed*
INFANTRY IN GENERAL
Alot of people seem to have trouble when it comes to stopping large quantities of infantry. Maybe you just got caught at a bad time or are using the wrong units; regardless, this is how to counter most infantry types.
Strategies like ODST Spamming will be touched on in the Strategy Counters section(this also applies to all other single unit spamming strategies)
Infantry may seem to be the weakest units in the game, however, they are in fact probably the most usefull. Even when doing little to no damage they can soak up a ton of fire from heavy hitters when used in large numbers and act as meatshields(I have witnessed them being used as meatshields firsthand, they soak up a SHIT TON of damage).
They are a early game threat and a late game living shield. Sohow do you counter them? The easiest answer is quite simple: Other infantry. Both the UNSC and Covenant have infantry that specialize at killing infantry. If you get infantry rushed the easiest way to counter is with the UNSC Flamethrower or the Covenant Jackal. I have firsthand seen ODST rushes fail due to the use of either one of these units. Other units, such as Scorpions are also good against infantry.

LIGHT VEHICLES
Light Vehicles are the vehicles that are small and tend to have little health compared to their bigger brothers. Units under this calssification are: Warthog, Gremlin, Ghost, Chopper, Cyclops
These vehicles are the light vehicles. They are available early on, and normally used in mass rushes due to their quick build times and cheap costs. I have seen MANY players lose to these early game units simply overpowering a few larger units built by players aiming at higher tech levels early on.
Countering these units is fairly easy. Aircraft, even if you only get a few hornets or banshees, are extremely effective. They will muder these. Certain AT infantry, and even other light vehicles are good against them.
WARTHOG
COUNTER WITH: Gremlin, Hornet, Vulture, Banshee, Hunter, Scorpion, Wraith(? I have little experience with covenant factions. I need some help here)
GREMLIN
COUNTER WITH: Gremlin, Hornet, Vulture, Banshee, Hunter, NON AP(Anti-Personnel) Infantry
GHOST
COUNTER WITH: ANY UNIT WITH OFFENSIVE CAPABILITIES
CHOPPER
COUNTER WITH: ANY UNIT WITH OFFENSIVE CAPABILITIES
CYCLOPS
COUNTER WITH: Infantry, Vehicles, Aircraft
MEDIUM VEHICLES
Medium Vehicles are the next thing up from Light they vehicles. The units falling into this category are those short of a 'Tank' Calssification but to healthy/powerfull to be considered a light Vehicle.
This Category Includes: Cobra, Wolverine, Locust. Between these units are the core of counter-units avaialable in the game. The Cobra is an Anti-Vehicle Artillery Unit, the Locust an Anti-Structure Artillery Unit and the Wolverine an Anti-Air Unit.

A good way to counter infantry is to use the anti infantry units of course, but if u build 2 turrets "plasma or flame mortars" and have some units as meat sheilds you can clear out these guys quite quickly. a Ghost rush is useless as the ghost does next to nothing. Chopper isn't really any good till its upgraded fully so thats out of rushing. Cyclops... never seen it actually used to attack, ive seen it used to heal scorpians but thats about it.

The only problem with the Cobras though is that getting to the third 'tech level' can take some time, especially when they do a low tech hog rush compared to the Guass hog ones which are showcased.

Counters for ghosts: Aircraft, tanks, RPG marines, hunters, warthogs, anything that DOESN'T rely on getting close to a target as a good player will simply pilot his ghosts away from them. These units include flamethrowers, cyclops, honor guards etc.
Cyclops: Aircraft, jackals, hunters, warthogs, tanks, leader units. Cyclops's are good vs buildings so try to keep them away from your turrets. Use HaloWars's terrible crowd control system and make a barrier with your units so your turrets can safely fire at them. Also keep them away from fragile stuff like locusts.

Jackals have far superior range and can deal critical damage in the time that they start shooting, to the time that the cyclops actually arrives.

these 3 guys scarab rushed us w/ 2 scarabs (me and some random guys) what we did was we surrounded the scarabs with marines and managed tto get them to ODST's shortly after but scarabs are easy to counter by themselves
