Re: Dragon Age 3
If I enjoy Mass Effect, Elder Scrolls and Fallout, should I still give this series a try? (yes I know ES4 and FO3 weren't by Bioware, it's just a reference to other RPG's because I don't play them often.)
I kinda want to but I'm unsure. The only exposure I had to this series was the DA2 demo and I did like that. Somewhat...

Will I like the second one if I never played the first?

Re: Dragon Age 3
The first one is a very old school RPG in the style of Baldur's Gate and KOTOR. It has a lot of brutal difficulty spikes, which if you are unprepared for it will put a tax on your enjoyment.
It's a pretty basic RPG story: old evil has return and you the last of a sacred order of guardians against said evil must fight it with your band of misfits.
DAII is loosely linked to the first, and the first one is not needed to play it. It's a lot more console friendly and a lot more simplified, with most the inventory system and skill trees cut and streamlined.
My main gripes was that it felt rushed as it recycles the same areas and a the same dungeon map that is only slightly chnaged by closing off areas and opening up new areas (And bare in mind, this isn't the same cave, it's virtually every cave in the game.) and the horrendus way that game ends.

Re: Dragon Age 3
I never played the first one.
Yeah, they recycle the cave over and over and over again...
Forgot about that.
It's annoying as shit, but still a good game overall.

Re: Dragon Age 3
it's just a bit annoying, mostly because we're so used to games being huge.

Re: Dragon Age 3
If they speed up the rate at which they are coming out with new DA's the series might become the CoD of RPG's
Anyways, the first one was fun untill you hit those annoying difficulty spikes, which basically ruined the first one for me. If I'm playing the game at a difficulty where I'm challenged, I dont want to run into certain spots where it could take hours to get past something that should take five minutes to get through.
I never picked up the second one because I heard it wasn't great from some people I know(one of them being a pretty hardcore RPG player), but I think that Bioware is a good enough Dev to realize what they have done wrong and improve on it.

Re: Dragon Age 3
Most of the people who don't like the game are mainly butthurt that Bioware made it more console friendly. The only real problems with the game imo are Kirkwall at night and the constant recycling of the same areas. I swear to god, there are only 4 real areas in the game. I think that Bioware will improve upon their mistakes from DA2 and make this is a game everyone can appreciate.
Re: Dragon Age 3
Sucked when enemy mages used that blood magic circle thing that killed YOUR WHOLE FUCKING PARTY

Yeah, and the story is a convoluted [generic] mess, don't forget that.

No, because so long as there's more of it, people will think it's good and shell out cash, even if DA3 had this same fault, people will still buy it, so...
Just like coming out with another Pirates of the Caribbean movie and it turns out to be meh, people are still going to see it on the merits of it being a movie about swashbucking.

The story of DA1 was a generic mess. DA2's story just felt like 3 seperate episodes in one person's life which would loosely linked. All of the detail of Hawke's story are lost, and we are essentially get the highlights. Sure In Act II the Mage/Templar conflict is built up on and set up for the final act, but not as much as was needed. Oh and the fact everybody goes apeshit at the end and tires to kill you, no matter your alliegance. That was pretty contrived and non sensical.
Look at the difference between DA1 to DA2 and the difference between Mass Effect 1 and 2. They clearly listen to criticism and try to improve on their mistakes (Regardless if you liked the final product or not). Why do you think they delayed ME3 till 2012? They clearly saw how poorly DA2 was recieved by ans and critics and decided to give more time to ME to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Re: Dragon Age 3
LOL, when I beat DA: Origins, I was like... 'what?'
It was the least fulfilling messy game I've ever played, and for it to have gotten such stellar reviews is shocking. I couldn't even tell if I was doing the right thing, every action had a positive and a negative result almost. Characterization was also quite lame. Alistair wants to be king, wait, now he doesn't, well maybe he does, he doesn't know, and now you must choose between 2 irrelevant choices with almost no impact to the player. I can't even imagine how the second one must have been, you can only play as that Hawke guy who really makes a point of styling his hairdo.
I'm worried about ME3, because more then often what fans want is actually pretty bad for the game, or they don't even know! Wasn't it recently that Valve asked their fanbase if they would prefer HL2: ep3 or L4D: 3, and the majority said L4D: 3? As soon as I beat ME 2, I wasn't completely satisfied with the story, but I still liked the game, and the first thing I thought of doing was chiming in with some suggestions to Bioware.
Also, I think that under one of those news articles pertaining to the ME movie, the people were saying Micheal Bay should direct it in the comments section. Nightmare stuff [Captain Anderson voice]

Necro time!
We have a title of the game (Dragon Age III: Inquisition) and it's being built on the Frostbite 2 engine.

Re: Dragon Age 3
I have played DA:O since the last time I commented in this thread and I fucking loved it.
I hope they go back it's play style.
And the same fucking character too. Much preferred the Grey Warden to Hawke.

Given the way DA II ended, it was a lot like KOTOR II and hinted at a two game main character team-up.
