Oh not again!

AGAIN! And the books this time. Why do I get the feeling that all that made the books good would be lost in translation to the screen?
Seriously just let the Halo movie idea die. It was a bad idea to begin with.

Re: Oh not again!
Yeah, as much as I would LOVE to see a "good Halo Movie". That's probably not going to happen.
Well, the very least they could do is just make it decent and watchable. I'd be somewhat ok with that if they made one. It's possible.
Oh, and only make ONE, if they have to make one at all.

Re: Oh not again!
I do think the books are a great source material, but to be honest doing it now would be really difficult, and would take a screenwriter who understood the Haloverse completely.
With Halo: Reach throwing a massive curveball into the canon, it would be very difficult to do Fall of Reach, and without some explanation as to what is going on First Strike and Ghosts of Onyx would be too, as they follow on directly from previous books.
It could work, but it looks more likely it will fall on it's face again.

Re: Oh not again!
Yeah, I agree. It would be very difficult. But not impossible.
I'm telling ya though, I truely think they drop the ball when they droped Peter Jackson and Niel Blomkamp from the "project".
I think that was about the closest and best thing that we had as to getting a good/great Halo Movie. That's my opinion.
I don't know man, there's a lot of routes they can take on this. You know the movie is more then likely going to happen so let's hope they take the right path.

I didn't have a high opinion of Blomkamp until District 9 came out, and now we are left with what might have been, as he's publicly said he'd never go back and try again with the project.
So many names have been attached to this like Steven Speilberg, Foox and now Dreamworks (Coincedently, which is the Film studio co-founded by Speilberg). I think the opportunity has been missed and they really should just abandon the project and focus on not fucking up the Halo series with 343 Industries and it's bastard children.

If they needed an expert on the Haloverse, go to the Bungie Universe forum and hire those folks.

Of course Krazy, my mistake, as I recall going through their extensive IQ test.
They wouldn't possibly let any of that rabble in, nor let them make a thread about how they thought Jorge was actualy the Arbiter from Halo 2 and 3 because he got captured and turned into a Elite/Spartan hybrid and the reason why he helped the UNSC was due to his repressed human memories coming back.
None of that mindnumbing stupidity, no siree bob.

Depending on the book and who does it, it might be at least decent.

With any luck, it will focus on UNSC Marines... Because we need an actual face to zero in on.

Re: Oh not again!
I really don't trust anyone but Mr. Peter Jackson to do the Halo movie, and he won't work with anyone but his buddy Mr. Niel Blomkamp. Considering that District 9 was made using left over funding for the Halo movie, what they could have done would have been amazing.
But Vigil's right. With Halo: Reach fucking up canon, only the most Halo savvy producer is going to know how to handle a movie about Reach, and I'd really be against movie adaptations of the other books without a Reach adaptation first. Maybe, they take the first half of Reach, but use it as a spring board to introduce Cole Protocol?

Re: Oh not again!
The only other place they could start is Contact Harvest, and I don't think that would translate into a very good film.

As long as Samuel L. Jackson is Seargent Johnson, it will be a great movie.

Re: Oh not again!
Honestly, I don't have very high hopes for any new Halo stuff now that Bungie's gone (aside from anything Nylund might spit out). If they can make a good movie, I'm cool with it. Still, it's bound to be riddled with cannon errors (how many Hollywood directors do you see playing video games?). Would I watch it still? Probably. I forced myself to sit through Halo: Legends, after all.

No. The problem with Cole Protocol, and one that they can't resolve without a re-write, is that the Innies looked like complete balls-to-the-padded-wall idiots for teaming up with Jackals. By starting from the beginning, they could change that, make the story decent, but that's too involved for a major studio.

Re: Oh not again!
Well, the Innies were pretty much balls-to-the-padded-walls idiots, because many believed they could just hide under a rock and the Covenant would just go away. Put a couple of retards in power, and the rest of the retards just fall in line.
Re: Oh not again!
Which was a perfectly REASONABLE belief when we didn't know about the Covenant's "Zero In On Homo Sapiens" sensors.Rotaretilbo wrote:Well, the Innies were pretty much balls-to-the-padded-walls idiots, because many believed they could just hide under a rock and the Covenant would just go away. Aside from that, the Innies had a somewhat reasonable belief. "UNSC says that Covenant glass all humans without mercy. These Jackals aren't. We already believe that the UNSC are lying fascist bastards, so we're going to cautiously play with the Jackals and get ready to run like Hell."
Done right, and people might have been taken for a minute, believing that the Innies had contacted actual Jackal heretics. The way Tobias did things...
