Why Cake is superior to pie

Well I know those cakes aren't meant to be eaten, but I was just proving the point they can and usually are more visually appealing.

Which is a point that has only been minorly contested in the first place. Point being, taste and versatility therein are more important than if it looks pretty, because, in case you missed this, it will be eaten, and its visual appeal will be lost to the corrosive acids that make your stomach their home.

Right... and the flavor of pie will eventually leave your mouth. Everything about it is being consumed. Aesthetics are no different. As for why aesthetics are important...

The concept is that you put good stuff in a crust. Pie, however, found a way around this, by taking a pizza design, so that every piece served would have five surfaces, two of which would be crusted, and for more spilly fillings, three sides are crusted. Pie is the genius design that needs not be changed, because it is awesome.

Also, flavor may leave your mouth, but then you burp, and it's back. Also, eating food is far more enjoyable than seeing food.

Aesthetics are somewhat important, but why is more diverse aesthetics better? Pie looks great, no reason to change it.

I really don't think Pie looks good at all. I mean... aside from the more creamy pies, like pumpkin pie, they tend to look like someone regurgitated into a pastry.

Looks brown and crusty most of the time.

Brown isn't usually that much of an appealing color unless it's a brownie of course.

Ironically, shades of brown and tan are the most common color used in cake.

That depends what you consider a "shade of tan."

Back to the argument of cheesecake... seeing as most cheesecake is not actually encased by a crust, but rather, simply rests on top of one, I don't really think we can call it a pie. When it is encased by crust, the crust on the side is normally more like sprinkled shavings of graham cracker, which is really not a "crust."

Cheese cake does not really adhere to the pie form factor either. I mean, of course it is circular, but it doesn't have ruffled edges, and it tend to have a perfectly straight vertical edge, where as pie sort of tilts outward.

It's a close call, but in most cases, I think Cheesecake more closely resembles cake.

I rarely see cheesecake without at least some sort of outer ring. I guess i'm just wierd.

When it does have an outer ring, it's usually very very light, and holds greater resemblance to a cake with some other material sprinkled over it.

The outer ring normally isn't a full crust.
