Sherlock Holmes
Has anyone else seen this? It's very well written, clever, inventive, interesting, all that jazz. Beats out avatar miles in story, if not in graphics.
I would do a plot synapsis and full review, but i'm lazy and really bad at summaries.

This is not another fucking Avatar discussion thread. FFFFFFFF
It was good, I fucking loved it. Robert Downey Jr was brilliant, as was Jude Law.

Re: Sherlock Holmes
Hmm, I doubt it could have been that good, certainly not better then Avatar, I don't see Robert Downy Jr. as a particularly amazing actor, (although Jude Law is pretty darn good).
But I guess I will have to watch to movie to substantiate my beliefs.

Ringleader, do you like anything?
From you I've heard nothing but negative, or just assholish comments about movies and actors. Good movies and actors.

So, you're judging it before you see it? AND you don't see how Robert is an amazing actor? Do you suffer from some of brain loss?

If there's no possibility of some kind of Aliens (c wut i did thar?) being in a movie, then there's no possibility of Sigourny Weaver being in it.

Re: Sherlock Holmes
I personally believe that Sherlock Holmes was a great movie. I think that Avatar was a lot better (I don't know what you people are talking about). Rachel McAdams was blown off the screen by RDJ and Jude Law unfortunately (this is the first movie I've ever liked Jude Law in). The Holmes/Watson bromance was hilarious and never fell flat. The villain though did for me. Blackwood was a good character idea with good writing. But unfortunately, his actor wasn't that good, and the character suffered. It was a good bad guy, but the man who played him wasn't. RDJ and Jude Law had terrific performances, and were stand out. The fight scenes were awesome, especially when time would slow down for Holmes to explain every move in detail. Score (for me): 8.5/10
If they had a better actor and Rachel McAdams had tried harder, I think the movie would've been a easy 10

I believe it was better because the movie focused on story and characters, rather than special effects.Mr. Grenade wrote:I personally believe that Sherlock Holmes was a great movie. I think that Avatar was a lot better (I don't know what you people are talking about)

Well, I do like GOOD movies, which are typically not movies that combine the Vietnam War with Robin Williams, two things you seem to rather like.
I thought Avatar was a good movie, remember me saying Avatar was a good movie? I even explained why I thought so and the strengths and weaknesses that I saw in the movie.
I also said this:
But I guess I will have to watch to movie to substantiate my beliefs.
which in layman's terms means that I have not actually seen the movie, and I am projecting what I think about it just by knowing the cast, (RDJ, Jude Law) compared to Avatar.
I didn't like Robert Downy Jr. in Ironman, he didn't seem like a real person at all (real funny, nor realistic), and I doubt he will seem like a real person in Ironman 2...
"Please, no gang symbols...NAH, go ahead and throw them up there!"
While your typical movie going crowd will laugh hysterically at something like this,
I am not particularly amazed by his semi-monotomic, irritating humor. BUT, with that said, I actually think he may be good in Sherlock Holmes, yep, you heard right, I think he's probably a bit more dynamic in this film, more so then others.
Actors that do retarded things are normally not very high in my books, not as in being upright, and smart, but typically thier acting is also lacking and boorish:
Released from jail on $5,000 bail. [2 August 2000]
Released from jail to complete his six-month jail sentence at a drug rehabilitation center. Downey caused a stir when he was freed to work on a movie. [31 March 1998]
He got into fight with another inmate at the Los Angeles County Jail, where he was serving time for a probation violation, and was treated for a cut over his nose. [13 February 1998]
Jailed for 180 days for violating probation. [December 1997]
Probation revoked after continued drug use. [17 October 1997]
Remanded to a secure drug rehabilitation center. [August 1996]
During traffic stop for speeding, he was arrested for drunk driving, possession of heroin, and possession of an unloaded pistol in his pickup truck. This was his first reported brush with the law at age 31. He was given a suspended prison sentence of 3 years, and granted probation with requirements of random drug testing and drug counselling. [August 1996]

Re: Sherlock Holmes
I enjoyed Sherlock Holmes more than Avatar, but beyond, they really should not be compared. They're entirely different movies.
The movie was pretty good. I really like Robert Downey Jr, and I think he played the role well. There were some really well put together scenes with very clever dialog. The plot of the movie was a little... lacking. I just don't think they did a very good job of building things up.
I really like the new take on Sherlock Holmes, I just don't think this movie was particularly great. I think of this one as more of a proof of concept, much like Batman Begins was to The Dark Knight.
A sequel, perhaps with a different director, could be fantastic.

This is why I don't think I would be a good reviewer/critic. I tend not to overthink movies/games etc. People here complain about every last little itsy-bitsy detail.
IMO, that just anoys me.
