Yes, especially in recent years.
In recent memory, (Since the Glory Years of Eisenhower) LBJ refused to run, Ford lost to Carter, Carter lost to Reagan, and Bush lost to Clinton.

So, since the glory years, only three presidents out of nine have been defeated, and all three of those lost because of the economy.
Admittedly, Ford wasn't all that popular to begin with.

The truth is... president Obama is so incredibly ugly that just seeing his face makes little girls and babies cry, so they hired a robot to give all of his speeches and do all of his photos for him. That explains why he always screws up when the teleprompter breaks!
