tbh, you could say a wall of text isn't a wall of text untill the post is 2 storys long it's all in comparison, i could have said "prophet got stuck, was pissed" so a paragraph from 5 words isn't realy that small.
maybe a med-large pile of rubble of text?

civ
1. the map doesn't change it's the same
2. the URF would canonically be allowed in the campaign
3. heroic is fucking easy, i played as covie my first time in skirmish and had a scarab before the enemy even attacked and thus the game was won with a single unit.

Re: Civ's HW Demo Thoughts
Yah, I figured that out. I just had different views. However... there has to be different maps for 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3 cuz the map in the demo is only big enough for a 2v2.KristallNacht wrote:1. the map doesn't change it's the same
What's stopped them before?KristallNacht wrote:2. the URF would canonically be allowed in the campaign
lol, I find it pretty easy now too. Not sure how you got a scarab so fast though...KristallNacht wrote:3. heroic is fucking easy, i played as covie my first time in skirmish and had a scarab before the enemy even attacked and thus the game was won with a single unit.

Agreed. Seeing 1 scorpion tank be blocked by 2 marine squads is a little irritating.
Im also even more psyched about the story after watching this:

You have to admit that ES did an amazing job with the cinematics.

Not that I know of.
If they did, they should have spend more time on the models for the real game.

Re: Civ's HW Demo Thoughts
(back to the control scheme) If u double click on a certain unit, say u have 6 Marines, 4 tanks, and a few spartans that are being blocked, u can hit A twice on the Marines and move them all over to this spot, and then if the tanks are in the way u can do the same thing (i know it doesnt fix it but it might help)

Yes, I believe they had a separate group that was part of ES work on them. Either that or they hired Blur again...Rasq'uire'laskar wrote:Not that I know of.

Re: Civ's HW Demo Thoughts
I think HW is a phenominal fast-paced RTS that sets a high standard for all future console RTS's.
As a Halo game, it butchered canon.

Re: Civ's HW Demo Thoughts
Sure, the game is somewhat fun and is streamlined enough to fit on console, along with a great control scheme, but it is hardly a phenomenal fast paced RTS.
The game is way to simple, you have several options for what you want to build, and that's it. Money presents no challenge at all since it only takes 3 upgraded supply pads and you are NEVER low on resources. They entire "strategy" of the game is about building your army, not controlling it. All you have to do is spam units and attack. The game was obviously designed so an idiot could play as well as a genius, for there is no room for brilliant tactics or well made plans, because the only thing that works is spamming. Spamming is encouraged because the AI usually only spams one unit at a time, so all you have to do is spam the counter.
The gameplay is by no means good, although I do think it's kinda fun, and I'm looking forward to multiplayer.

Re: Civ's HW Demo Thoughts
In multilayer I'm counting on the game going much faster, leaving you no time to spam units. Players are always looking for new ways to rush.
Re: Civ's HW Demo Thoughts
Dud, I think youa re basing waaay too much off of the Demo where all the AI does is spam. Against an actuall player who knew what they were doing, the game could be veeery different.

Re: Civ's HW Demo Thoughts
Meh, your basing too much of the retarded AI. If you spam pretty much anything in a real game, you will more likely than not get your ass handed to you. The only possible exception is spamming Scarabs, as those are un-ass-handable (real word, look it up).Dud Doodoo wrote:Sure, the game is somewhat fun and is streamlined enough to fit on console, along with a great control scheme, but it is hardly a phenomenal fast paced RTS.

Even things like tanks and Vultures have simple counters (anti-armour/air, AA)
Even spamming just Honour Guards in a rush is ineffective, putting a single vampire or perhas a few Jackals and Hunters can work wonders.
And using Secondary attack and placing units as well as reacting to what their doing will be key in high-level games.

Re: Civ's HW Demo Thoughts
It's gunna be interesting what the early tactics are though when people don't rush... with a rock/paper/scissors gametype (infantry>air>vehicles>infantry [supposedly]) you only have a 50% chance of winning a 1v1. 3v3 should be epic though; lots of teamwork.

In a 3v3, I would be the one eho builds lots of cobras and infantry to form a front line while my allies lead the assaults
