Plasma Torpedo. It can burn through a ship very quickly if not dealt with.

Re: Halo-Verse question...
the plasma torpedo is bettah
although... the books tend to disagree about this imo
in one book it takes a single torp to take down a covenant ship's shields...
but then in another the [covy ship from FRIST STRIKE] takes about 40,000 hits and lives to tell the tale.
though the nukes never EVER destroy the shields in one hit, so I think the torp is stronger.
(and yes, it might just be that torps are good against shield and nuke good against unshielded, but w/e, I can't remember)

Re: Halo-Verse question...
One was a Destroyer.
The other was a Flagship.
They are very different.

Re: Halo-Verse question...
okay...
I can make an assumption now.
THe Nuclear Warheads are more powerfull... however, because space is a vacuum the shockwave(which is teh msot dangerous part) doesn't exist, all the energy is infrared and Visible light.
The problem with this is the fact that if this exploded right noext to a ship, no matter how close, its likely less than half of the energy will be delivered to the ship.
I have read that a Nuke against an unsheilded ship just rips the thing to pieces, which would make sense becuase the Nuke can directly contact the ship and release a shockwave.

Re: Halo-Verse question...
It also releases an EMP. But the Covenant Shields can somehow protect them from it.

Re: Halo-Verse question...
Thats confusing.
I know its possible to electromagnetically shield something(I.E. M1A1's and A2's are shielded against it) but I to hav ethe energy shields stop it seems odd. If anything, I figure the EMP would wipe those shields out.

Re: Halo-Verse question...
It's one of the things about Covenant Technology I never really got.
Hopefully UNSC AI, or somebody with more Knowledge in this area could explain it better.

Re: Halo-Verse question...
Bungie wanted the Covenant shields to stop EMPs
and because they're based on super-advanced-ancient-alien-space-technology they just do.

Re: Halo-Verse question...
Quite honestly, I think the Covenant shields will stop an EMP, but they'll deplete themselves in the process. It's not such a hard concept.
I'd also venture that a nuke has more power, but the energy in a plasma torpedo is more directed.
