Here's the thread i'll be updating my progress in.

The quality of pics will fluctuate as I try different cameras (which are pretty much all shit mind you).
These here were taken with the camera on my phone which is decent.

Here is the actual case itself. I got a rather large one to give myself room to messup and have plenty of space to fit everything in. If I make another or decide to just take everything out of this one and transplant it into a new case I always can.

Instead of using the N64's analogue stick on the left side (the big circle) I will be using a gamecube controllers analogue stick. I love the N64 but it's analogue stick is shit and they break so often and just are uncomfortable. All the other buttons will be from the N64 though. Except maybe the L, R, and Z. Still trying to decide if I want to put those on the back of the case or not (which I forgot to take pictures of...)

I'm also still trying to decide if I should use the four yellow C buttons on the right side of the case or if I should switch it out for the gamecubes Yellow stick instead.

I'm going to post updates in the thread by posts and then update the first post with all those updates as the thread goes. Then either during this process or after all is said and done I will make a full tutorial. I will explain each process while i'm doing it so the thread itself will be a mini tutorial.

Here is the backside of the case. The square is where the cartridge will be. More on that in next pic. Also on the back are the L R and Z triggers and maybe an exhaust port for the fan if I add it in. Hard to see as the pencil marks have faded but they are still visible.

I feel like the Z trigger should be on the left side as that's the hand you use while holding the controller so it should be natural but the guy who has pretty much invented portable making says to put it on the right and i'm inclined to believe him. Decisions Decisions....
Spoiler:
N64 Portable Image012

That big square looking empty space above the writing is actually it's own square for where the cartridge will rest. Imagine a gameboy color and that's how I want the cartridge to fit inside this baby.
Spoiler:
N64 Portable Image013

Here is the Dremel I will be using. It's basically a mini saw.
Spoiler:
N64 Portable Image014

And the Soldering Iron i'll use. It's bascially a metal pipe with a needle on the end that gets super fucking hot to melt shit. Use it to make wires connect to things using solder.

For those wondering I got the case from a company who sent it to me as a free sample to "Pheonix Studios" Very Happy

Still looking for a name if anyone has suggestions.

I was thinking "Primus" or "Primus64" (means "First" in Latin)

I vote original C buttons, Z on the left, and Agilis 64 (means mobile or nimble in Latin).

Fixed my post to correctly state that the God of Portable making says the Z button should be on the right.

I don't know why but he says "Trust me" on the matter and he's quite good at what he does. Right now he's getting pretty much every single game console before the Xbox (so like 23) and making it so they all run off 1 power station, 1 video cord, turn on individually with a giant elevator button looking on switch, and created his own controller to run every console.

He's named it "Project Unity"

It just makes more sense on the left, to me. Z effectively filled the role of L on the N64. Z and R were both heavily used, while L was the ginger stepchild that no one cared for.

He probably says put it on the right because shoot is typically associated with R2 on future consoles. Z was even on the right on the GameCube controller. The difference is all these future consoles also make great use of L, whereas the N64 did not. If you want your left index finger to have anything to do, I suggest left.

Left index would be the L trigger while pinky or ring would be Z.

I wish I had an extra Xbox I could make portable. TBH an N64 seems like it would be too bulky and non-modular to work and be truly portable.

N64's motherboard is 6 inches by 7 inches long.

That makes it slightly bigger than a CD case.

I do not see how that is bulky.

Hell the xbox's motherboard is THE SIZE OF THE XBOX.

*edit*
Yeah, these are totally too bulky to be portables.

Oh i've got the entire back side, no problem with spacing. It's just HOW is all.

Right now I have it this way.

With that set up where you would naturally have your pinky finger resting while using the L and R triggers will let you press the Z button easily

Alright, pic heavy post this time. I'm going to be showing how I opened my N64 to all of you. You may think "just use a screwdriver and open it". Well fuck you. It's no that damn simple

Here is the system i'm operating on. Didn't care how clean it was since the shell is garbage anyway.
Spoiler:
N64 Portable Image016

And here is the underside of it where I have highlighted all the screws.
Spoiler:

N64 Portable Image024

And here is the completely unique fucking screw and screwdriver that the N64 uses. Other screwdrivers do not get this fucker out. I was able to by the grace of God get one out with a screwdriver I had laying around but it could not fit into the crevices of the holes the other screws were resting in.
Spoiler:
N64 Portable Gamebit500

The fucking screws inside their crevices
Spoiler:

N64 Portable Image018
N64 Portable Image021

So not having the proper screwdriver for the task and not wanting to purchase the 5 dollar plus shipping & handling Nintendo Screwdriver that I would only use once or twice I decided to employ a different method to open my N64.

I took my soldering iron which is basically just a metal rod that gets super fucking hot and put the tip onto the Nintendo Screw. I held it there until the screw got super god damn hot and physically MELTED through the bottom of the case and into the other side of the case and into the screw post.

Found out a part in my dremel is broken and needs replacement cause some jackoff thought putting a plastic coupling that breaks like wax was a good idea.

Only cost a few bucks and I don't need it till i'm actually making the case so I should be fine. Don't think i'll need it for taking off parts on the motherboard but idk, might be able to get away with soldering the parts i'm thinking of off.

Where you able to get a metal replacement or did you have to use a weak OEM part?

The part will be here on the 7th. Have to get another plastic part.

It's the part that connects the gears in the dremel to the gear that spins the blade part. I imagine it's made out of plastic so if you tried cutting something you couldn't and the blade just wouldn't move instead of all the gears inside the dremel coming to a stop while trying to move and having the whole thing just fucking explode instead just this plastic piece breaks.

It's only like a 3 dollar piece so whatever.

Bad news is it will delay me a bit, good news is that i've got a few days of material piled up that I will just keep posting like I have been so you all won't notice a difference.

Read through the thread and noticed I haven't really showed much yet so fuck it, here's what the nintendo looks like once you remove the shitty N64 screws:

N64 Portable Image027

Now all those screws in the middle I was having a bitch of a time trying to get out and in the end just fucking couldn't remove despite them being normal Phillips head screws. I don't know if they were unremovable due to time, my own apparent girly strength, or Nintendo made a pact with Lucifer to make these an unstoppable force. Then I realized you don't even NEED to remove those screws. They just hold down the metal shielding to another piece of shielding. The only screws you need to remove are here:

N64 Portable Image028

FUCK YOU NINTENDO, I DO WHAT I WANT

Already removed the screws prior to taking the picture. Don't like it then blow me.

Here is that asshole shielding piece:

All this beginning stuff is rather boring I know but I did want to make a fully comprehensive tutorial.

Plus I do not want to start wiring on the motherboard yet as I need that Dremel part so I can start cutting parts off the motherboard with a saw. Best to do that before I start putting wires on it.

Bare with me.
