Which of the two candidates do you favor (or hate least)?
Re: Presidential Race
Oh, I'm sorry for reading your comment as sarcasm. We all know how well sarcasm is or isn't displayed over text.Rotaretilbo wrote:
You seem to be confused (read stupid). I was conceding to cut off those months because it didn't matter.
Always so angry, Rot.
The point was it was better than Bush. I did not say it was good.Rotaretilbo wrote:Obama sure did a wonderful job with his super majority curbing that unemployment spike. Oh wait...it persisted all the way through the super majority. Imagine that.
Okay, where were the decreases between April 2008 and January 2009? Unemployment was on the rise that entire time, and after. 6 of those 9 months had jumps higher than .2%, 8 of 9 had .2% increase. That is consistent.Rotaretilbo wrote:
Except that we see increases and decreases of .2% regularly throughout a stable level of unemployment. There isn't a consistent abnormal spike in unemployment until October 2008.

Re: Presidential Race
I still don't see how Romney will fix in 4 years what Obama couldn't. If anything, he'll keep it all the same and it will just shake itself out.

rot wrote:The point is that Bush was lambasted very violently by the entirety of our media, barring the conservative FOX, for accumulating 5 trillion in debt over 8 years. Obama managed to do the same in 4 years. Probably something to do with cutting taxes and increasing government spending...
I think the point that most Obama people would make is that a very large portion of the deficit accumulated under Obama came as a result of Bush-era policies that Obama didn't have enough political clout / support to get overturned. The Bush tax cuts and Prescription Medicare (and two unfunded wars which Obama had to clean up after).
I don't love Obama. I don't agree with his politics, I don't think he's a particularly good leader, and he doubled down on the constitutional recklessness of the Bush administration. I think Obama is himself a more intelligent and thoughtful person than Romney, and based on the non-existence of Romney's tax plan, I think Obama would likely do a better job at securing some degree of stability (and very, very, very, slow, temporary progress) for the next 4 years... but that's about it. He's nothing exceptional, but I think he is the better choice (of the two).
I don't care that Romney is ultra-wealthy, and I'm INCREDIBLY TIRED of hearing about abortion and gay rights (I can't even think of two issues that I care less about).
I live in Ohio. Right now, some polls are putting Romney ahead by a single percentage point. Regardless, I think I'll be voting for good ol' Gary. I don't like Romney, but I don't really think Obama deserves it either. At least I'll always be able to say "If the majority of people voted like me, the country would be in much better shape."

Re: Presidential Race
I'm going to vote just so that I can help make sure romney doesn't win. In the event he does win then I can say I tried and bitch like everyone else inevitably will.
I wonder when the antichrist is gonna run for president already..

Re: Presidential Race
I don't intend to vote at all. The presidential elections are a farce anyway. No matter who wins tomorrow, we lose.

Got my mail-in ballot filled out, will drop off tomorrow.
Might upgrade to voting from the rooftops someday. Doubt it.

Re: Presidential Race
Watched Fox new's coverage after Obama was crowned the winner to see what they had to say about it.
One of the correspondents said "You have to give it up to Romney for running a clean campaign" and I literally laughed out loud.

Given that it looks like the Republicans still have the House of Representatives, I wouldn't hold my breath.

I'm just happy Romney and Ryan aren't in office. Too bad congress won't get anything done and make Obama look bad...

I don't care what party it is, a super majority is never good.Vigil wrote:CivBase wrote:Seems Obama has won. Hopefully he does much better in his second term.

Besides, Democrats still own the senate and the oval office. I had no sympathy for Bush when Democrats held the senate and I have no sympathy for Obama right now. Part of being president is bringing individuals with different ideals together for a common good. This is what gives the president power in legislation (aside from veto, of course).

Meh. When he had the super majority was probably one of the markedly worst periods of his term.
Re: Presidential Race
Except there will be no incumbent, so the candidate selection will be TWICE as messy.
Re: Presidential Race
For those wondering why congress and the white house didn't call the attacks on the US embassy in Libya a terrorist attack, they were asked not to by the CIA. The Republicans knew this even as they used it to attack Obama.

Re: Presidential Race
The CIA asked the Obama administration to blame the attacks on Youtube even after the DoD was like "it was a terrorist attack"?
