It can't take THAT long to replace a clip. Given all the other benefits, I think it's a good replacement. Still, a much larger clip would undoubtedly be an improvement.

but the purpose of the Automatic Rifleman is to provide constant suppressive fire to cover the movements of the other Marines. The threat of death causes the enemy to stay in position, disengage entirely, and, if nothing else, stop shooting back.

reloading time is actually longer than the time it would take the M27 to empty 30 round clips, even with some serious fast reloading skills. Sure some time is saved if the M27 can fire from the open-bolt but I don't remember seeing that on its wikipedia.

Yeah... right. I'd really hate to implement a system like that, because it would (in all likelihood) screw up what makes the weapon so hard to jam. And suppressing fire works best at higher RoFs.

It also works best with large clip sizes :p
