Re: Mosque next to groundzero
It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't obvious that they are putting it there because it's ground zero. I'm against it.
Oh, and yah, Fox is biased. It's conservative and reports on things that are important to conservatives (as well as major news subjects just like everyone else). I'm conservative, so I watch Fox. It has its fair share of loons who are just out to pound democrats, so I often try to think of simple counters to what they say to give the other side a fair chance. However, I find myself agreeing with Fox's stuff more often than other broadcasters.
If you don't like conservative politics, don't watch Fox. If you like conservative politics, watch Fox but not without your own speculation. If you don't like politics at all, I hear Canada is nice this time of year.

You do realize that almost all news stations are about as bad as FOX, right?

I have to say BBC America is my favorite news show.
Their english accents always make me smile.

Death no More wrote:I never said I liked any other news stations, most of them make me mad like fox, but fox is the worst among them so of course I would mention it over them. I don't watch it at all, I just hear about what they say/do. I've looked at both sides of this argument so I don't know what your talking about. Also Im not Democrat or Republican, I like some parts of each party.
I've listened to both sides of the argument and looked up some stuff online, but that's about it.KrAzY wrote:well it sounded to me like you were basing your opinions on the matter off of the testimony of a political satirist
have you actually done any research into the subject?

Re: Mosque next to groundzero
It's not being built ON ground zero, that's where the new WTC is going to be built. It's kind of like a religious community center, and it's going to be built a few hundred feet away from the actual ground zero.

I didn't bother reading the whole thread, judging by the last few posts, I assumed it was off topic.

Re: Mosque next to groundzero
Just to put my personal view on this, most people would argue that while the mosque planners have the right to build there but that doing so would be tasteless, we have to ask if they really do have the right. Before you scream that this is anti-First Amendment, hear me out. As I understand the ban on respecting religion, the goverment has to ignore any religious aspect when making decissions, so the mosque/community center is simply a non-profit community center. This is fine, until you reallize that the land they want to use, while not where WTC used to stand, it is where a building already stands, a building that many opponents of the new community center argue would have been declare a historical site and protected had it not been for political pressure. Second, the planners have so far (as far as I know)been unwilling or unable to show where the money to develop the property came from, if in fact they even have it. While this is required of any structure in NYC, it's especially necessary in the face of allegation that money is coming from sources hostile to America (which is a valid allegation if for no other reason than that the lead imam on this project is an idiot) Finally, if NYC doesn't give them special permission to build wherever they want because they are a religious structure, NYC has every right to deny the permission to build, and a clear parallel can be drawn between the mosque near Ground Zero and the Walmart that didn't go up in Times Square, and the distinct lack of any Walmart in NYC.

New Yorkers have protested the construction of Walmart stores out of legitimate concern for small local businesses. On the other hand, the Muslim community center, if built, probably won't drive anyone out of business.

It would be like banning all Americans from Nagasaki or Hiroshima.
Or no Germans could go to Auschwitz.
Don't be beating an entire group of people with the same stick because of what a minority of them did.

Sure the stores around it still do what they do, but all the offices and business inside the towers have relocated

while it is not in the constitution and whether or not it was radical muslims who caused the whole 9/11 disaster,
out of respect for those who lost their lives that day, i believe that ground zero should remain undisturbed and serve as a monument
