I don't know about you guys, but my screen likes to freeze up a lot. I should probably turn on the auto save if I'm going to get past 20 turns...

Other than that, the game is absolutely fantastic from what I can tell.

That was an arcade game, while the civilization series is known for it's depth and complexity. These are the two things arcade games lack.

I played Civ 5 at a relatives house, it's quite a step down from Civ 4.

But hey, there's a 5 on the box!

This is the first Civ game I've played, so I can't say much about how it compares to previous installments... but it's been hard for me to get into. Like any strategy game (perhaps even more-so than usual), Civ takes a few games to get the hang of... and when each game takes an entire day of non-stop playing, I can't help but give in to the itch to switch over to SC2.

they're not the same type of game at all.

Starcraft is an RTS with all that entails

Civ is about management more than anything else, really

its essentially an X4 game, more like Sins of a Solar Empire than Starcraft 2.

I'm not saying they're the same type of game. I'm just saying that I'm not patient enough to learn the ins and outs of Civ. Learning a slow game takes much longer than learning a fast game.

Because you want a game that doesn't give you a year to think?

Slow does not mean more thoughtful. Merely means more time to think. Starcraft is extremely fast-paced and simplistic compared to other RTS's, its also one of the most thoughtful.

Civ is one of the most horribly time consuming things ever. You play it like a round or two of halo, but that round lasts 7 hours!

The new patch is out. Major infinite city sprawl balance (happy resources now 4 instead of 5 etc). AI is waaaay better at war (though still dumb).

Good times all around. I've spent about 40 hours in the last fortnight and am trying for Immortal. Damn holidays.
