Re: Collateral Murder
Bull.
Sh*t.
I don't cuss a lot, but the way this has been portrayed in the mass media is tiresome.
I'm sorry but in order to cope with what you have to do on the battlefield is to squash down all emotion and realize it's a job.
As for 'Collateral Murder', the name is so ridiculous, it's beyond belief. No. The Military should not have tried to cover up like that, but the Apache crew was circling the area for a reason. There'd been insurgent attacks nearby, they were on patrol for insurgents. The way they clustered around the guy, looking at the pictures he was taking? That's what they do to shield a guy loading an RPG.
Edit: After seeing the video with the background FAQs, I'd like to know the reasoning for not medivacing the wounded children. Could be that priority is supposed to be given to troops, could be something else, could be blind indifference.
The video pointing out the children is rather ridiculous, hein? Maybe they're trying to show where the children were, but if they expected the soldiers to see the children for what they were...
What if the people putting that video together didn't zoom in and point out that those blobs were children? Would you guys have seen it, even on the second playthrough? What if you weren't told beforehand who was getting shot?
Sh*t.

Re: Collateral Murder
I saw this video yesterday. What the guys were doing could be mistaken. But I do think the guys in the Apache jumped the gun.

Yeah, that fox news comment about them demonstrating "Videogame-like behavior" really got under my skin. News flash, that's how they're trained to act. They're not supposed to kneel over every dead body and pray for their eternal prosperity or some shit. They're soldiers. They kill, and they don't make a big deal out of it. It's messed up, but it's what keeps us all alive.

Re: Collateral Murder
not sure about this one. I guess they probably did the right thing. If they didnt and they did have guns and rpgs they would be getting yelled at for not shooting

Well, in Rasq's defense (or, from his perspective, to his offense) that was a quote from the antagonist of a film who was slowly losing what was left of his sanity.

Re: Collateral Murder
After seeing this video, it was a terrible thing that the journalists and civies got killed.
But I must say, Rasq is right. RoE applied at the time.
Also, I'd like to point out that from the helicopter's view, it appeared as though they were carrying weapons.

I agree. From several hundred meters in the air, you can't really tell the difference between a pistol or a camera.Ruski wrote:After seeing this video, it was a terrible thing that the journalists and civies got killed.

Re: Collateral Murder
the one thing people should be complaining about it targeting the van that went to help them as the Laws of Land Warfare dictate that any individuals and vehicles showing the exclusive intent to provide care for enemy forces and civilians are illegal targets.

What about weapons recovery, just out of curiosity?KristallNacht wrote:the one thing people should be complaining about it targeting the van that went to help them as the Laws of Land Warfare dictate that any individuals and vehicles showing the exclusive intent to provide care for enemy forces and civilians are illegal targets.
