Yeah, like the game is going to be short, so why customize? There should be enough guns for a clear progression of armament and firepower already, but subdivided that farther and then what? you play with one variant for 4 minutes, before swapping out for another?

Well, my view on it is unchanged. I still think it looks cool, interesting, and I will buy it.

Well that's my take on things, as arguing about something so trivial is worthless to me.

I don't think the visor view of Skully (or Emile) is obstructed. He just removed the paint in a way that shows a skull.

It's not smart, but hey, if my name was "Emile", i would scratch up my visor too Smile

But this are also Spartan III's were talking about, and one Spartan II of unknown orgin. I would love to see a Spartan II cameo that showed near-hivemindedness.

But the visor is polarized, not painted. You wouldn't be able to remove the paint, and even if you could, even that much scratching would likely distort or obscure vision somewhat.

Nonetheless, i don't think we know enough about the specs of the Mark V visor to make any kind of informed decision.

Hey, since these are S-IIIs, I can understand a larger degree of customization.
But the M&M colors went too far.

With customizable weapons, I can only hope. I've WANTED customizable weapons for a long time. Not like adding scopes to the shotgun (Crysis!) but more like the grenade launcher and shotgun attachments for the Assault Rifle.

And how do we know that the Mark V visor is glass? And not some stronger replacement so that it wouldn't be as much of a weak spot?

Yes, i read all the books, i don't recall them talking about what the visor was made of.

But we don't know how the Spartan's helmet will react to scratching. It may well only block light one way, to prevent this exact problem. Otherwise, any shot to the visor would cause cracking, making the Spartan useless. In 500 years, this could very well been a very well known and often resolved problem.

as I said before... the physics of the light will not change depending on the material it is made out of... and even if it is one way.. the way that the light is being blocked would be the light coming in.... which would still obscure vision.
the material will not make one fucking bit of difference to how the light passes through it.

Bungie stopped caring about real life.
They've changed their target audience to people who probably have never even played the first one, much less care anything about its story.

Like i said before, we also don't know what he scratched. Looks more like he scratched something on top of the visor than the visor itself.

And we know that it is common for light to not be able to pass through a scratched surface, but we can't name it as a law. What if the visor was made so that the scratch indents didn't roughen and actually damage the glass, just remove the glass scratched. Basically, instead of having the roughening of glass that blocks light, the visor could have been made so that all scratching created a smooth surface.
Point is, we don't know.

If it was on top of something the visor that he/she scratched, the light would still have to pass through that and would be distorted through that, and thus distorted through the visor.

No, if you have two transparent surfaces, than take one off, you still have a transparent surface. It might be a bit scratchy, but i'm sure it's not something that would actually obstruct vision.
