This is a picture of a sub character from Star Wars Episode II. His name is Dex.

Did Bioware steal an idea from Star Wars? 383885masseffect2007062

You all know who this is! Wrex! From MEI, ya know? Yeah, yeah w/e...

So, to the point: They look very similar and have very similar names. (Well, the Dex in the movie looks like Wrex... I'll try and find a better pic later) Did Bioware steal the Krogan face from Lucasarts?

Sure, games borrow ideas from movies all the time...

Dex->Wrex

MW2's story was COMPLETELY and UTTERLY copied from a movie (unfortunately I cant remember the name) even down to the smallest details, like that black trooper running with the two green flares.

Is it me or does Wrex look 10x less detailed and 10x lamer then the original now in ME2?

The Call of Duty games are supposed to pay homage to movies though.

They clearly quote several movie lines in the first Modern Warfare, ("I like to keep this handy for close encounters") and apparently (I haven't played them enough) the earlier Call of Duty games have plots and scenes closely based off WW2 movies.

But star wars is fantastic as well. Most of the core concepts of Mass Effect are straight out of star wars. The specter's are essentially Jedi' without light sabers.

The prequels were kinda lame.
It seems that they tried for a different target audience.
Like they thought if they completely changed the franchise so that the prequel movies were for kids then:
It would attract kids who are new to the franchise, who would enjoy the movie due to it being based for them, and would then have to go and pay to watch the original trilogy.
And then the hardcore fans would have to watch the prequel movies because it was Star Wars and that if they didn't it would be blasphemous.
And basically just be maximizing the amount of people they could suck money from.

Also one of the reasons I disliked the prequel trilogy is because Jedi were raped.
In the original trilogy Jedi were the Fucking bad asses. In the prequel trilogy, every fucking kid, Grandmother and dog were jedi, being a Jedi didn't look cool. It l made the Jedi look the same as noobs trying to be 1337 MLG skilz.
The force was this amazing thing, mysterious and powerful; in the prequels trilogy the force was a bunch of germs in your blood cells of something stupid like that.
In the original lifting a light saber out of ice was a challenge, they didn't rely on the force, and then apparently people were able to crash a starcruise thingamajig or whatever. It makes the people look pussie, using force to do their bidding, hiding behind it, and without it they would be useless.
In other words, a man conquering a kingdom with nothing but bare hands is a lot more heroic than some one who hides behind a shield of metal armor.

And whatdafuck was up with Jar Jar, it is like Star Wars meets ET or something.

But the Original trilogy was perfect.

Don't even TALK about that shit fest called Star Wars the Clone Wars....

*Vomits*

@ Vigil: That was probably the deal. Mass Effect could be essentially KOTOR if Bioware wanted, cuz Lucasarts said they could have some of the ideas from Star Wars if they made KOTOR. (Total speculation, nfs)

I would just like to point out; those would be equally impressive and heroic (if not stupid for the former part...)

And I liked the prequels. Granted they weren't great, or anything as mind blowing as the originals, but they weren't that bad.

Post by Rasq'uire'laskar on Thu Dec 31, 2009 1:50 pm

Personally, I found the prequels to be... droll, and there's a reason why they were.

Lucas wrote, Lucas directed.
In the originals, he only directed the first one, and I think he had help writing.
In the prequels, it really showed that
A: He couldn't write dialogue. "My love for you is like a lovely river of loving love!"
B: He had no idea how to put a coherent plot together. It was worst in the first one, but got better later on. A lot of "Getting back to Coruscant" seemed really contrived, and that was a HELL of a lot better than the other half. Did the Trade Federation decide to ship out all of the battleships or something, leaving the Command Ship unguarded?
C: Lucas's SOLE redeeming quality is his vision for special effects, but it got way out of control in the prequels. Pod racing scene: Very nice, but what the HELL does it have to do with the price of Bacta on Bespin? It seemed like a poorly contrived plot device, and it was. By the third movie, you had flashy little robots trying to cut apart interceptors, which still didn't come across as neat as the original's dogfights.

*George Lucas's problem is that he's willing to use flashing lights before the tech behind them pans out (Go look at the Rancor in the redux editions of the originals.) to cover huge plot holes and make up for bad storytelling (Any point in Indy 4. ANY POINT!). The sad thing is, Jar Jar Binks was the first realistically animated main character (As opposed to the Dinosaurs in Jurassic Park, which walked, ran, and shrieked) but nobody liked him because he was a Scrappy.
