ATI vs. Nvidia Empty ATI vs. Nvidia

This thread is for debating whether ATI or Nvidia makes the better gpu.

Prove it then. Fanboy ranting doesn't count as proving, so I want actual facts. If you look at what makes up a 5870 vs a 285, you'll see that the 5870 is better, not to mention the 5970. Compared to a 295, a 5870 beats it in most things, and the 5870 is a single gpu card. Did I forget to mention that the latest ati cards have dx11 and that I can run crysis on max using only one 5870, something aj probably can't do with his mobile parts. (I have yet to overclock it)

DirectX 11 support is really what swayed me to the ATI side.

ATI are often loud and noisy, but they are such great value cards in comparison to nVidia in most cases.
It all depends on budget, but I do think that there are a lot of incredibly bigoted nVidia fanboys who will just blindly support nVidia, without any knowledge of ATI specs and prices and their comparisons with nVidia cards.

Right then.

I have ATI Radeon, and I probably won't see another graphics card before I graduate from high school or before I get back from service in the Navy, so I'm gonna go with ATI on this one for shear fan-boyness.

yep... good job buying the 1st DX11 card on the market... when most games being produced now adays still don't even take advantage of DX10

Nvidias next card will support DX11 and be more powerful than the ATI card... and when it comes out maybe there will actually be some use for the card Razz

Haven't bought it yet, but I plan to.

Bad Company 2, one of the main games I intend to buy, supports DX11.

And I'd note that saying "nVidia's next card will be better than ATI's current one" is as fallacious as me arguing that ATI's next card will be better than nVidia's current one (which is true, since ATI's current card is better than nVidia's current one). What matters is how nVidia's next card will compete with ATI's next card, and if the current and last cards are any indicator, ATI is going to win that competition.

the newest card is always the better one

Nvidia puts out new cards early in the year and ATI puts em out later in the year... I buy computer stuff in the spring and summer, not fall and winter

have fun having to buy a second ATI card when your first one conks out after 6 months

I would also note, KrAzY, that my ATI Radeon X700 Pro card has lasted me since I bought it five years ago, so no, I doubt the ATI Radeon 5750 (because even that card has DirectX 11 support, and its much cheaper than the higher end cards) I plan on buying will conk out on me after a mere six months.
