X-Box 360
I have been given the opertunity to get my own 360 (I've had to share it with...pretty much everyone, since the one I've been using is connected to the main TV). And I have a few purchase-related (sort of) questions:
Is it true that it's cheaper to buy the hard drive-less 360 and then buy the 120 GB hard drive seperatly?
If so, where can you buy just the 120 GB hard drive?
Does the Elite consol have any advatages over the other 2 besides more memory?
If I migrate my XBL accounts from my old 360 to my new one, will my saved game files come with it? Or do I need to buy a memory card?

It's only cheaper than buying the 20gb and upgrading. Buying the Elite still has the benefit of being black and coming with HDMI

Anywhere games are sold lol

comes with HDMI cables. And its black

Migrating your GT bring SOME 'save game' data along with it, like Halo 3 profile and stuff. But most games with in depth saves (GTA4, fallout 3) leave the saves on the HDD. So you'll need a memory card for those. Or look up how to transfer files from HDD to HDD.

no.....
It has an HDMI port on the back, but so does every recently manufactured 360 these days.
I'm not sure of the exact difference, but I know that buying HDs separately is obnoxiously expensive, because M$ has a monopoly on that market. THe prices may have gone down after 'nxe'

Re: X-Box 360
I don't know if this is true or not, but it's been said the Halo 3 edition is RROD proof.
I've had the RROD so I assume it's true, but I'll have to get back to you on that.

Re: X-Box 360
What I read on the internet about the Elite before I bought mine was that they had "fixed" the hardware malfunctions on it. I can honestly say as my Xbox broke for the 6th time since I got it 2 years ago this July that isn't true, frankly if your looking to avoid the ring of death, you just have to hope you don't get someone elses refurnished xbox from the store.
benefits? well HDMI as everyone has said, its black, and it's got the 120 gig so you won't have to constantly keep freeing up space on your hard drive. Also there is a slight rumor that games run smoother on the Elite, but I have yet to see this on mine (although I do think if you're connected to the internet with it that it runs better with better internet connections, don't quote me on this)
downfalls? The thing costs $100 (U.S.) more than the 20G xbox, and $200 more than the arcade, as for having a longer console life? Well, XNate02's xbox is the 20G and he's had his for 2 years this Christmas without it breaking once, and my friend Taylor has had his arcade for a year and a half without breaking, it really depends on whether or not you got the best of the cheap hardware.

ACTUALLY....
This is somewhat true. The 120 GB hard drives give you complete backwards computability, as I recently found out with my new HD. It's not the elite itself, but the hard drive that comes with it. Kinda cool, cuz now I don't have to go to all the work of moving my original Xbox downstairs to play originals.

Re: X-Box 360
I think you'd be best off getting the core system plus a 120 GB hard drive. Save yourself $100... but then you don't get XBL gear I suppose. Elite would probably be a safe bet if you're interested in backwards compatibility. Otherwise, get the regular. It's hard to fill up a 20 GB hard drive on an Xbox.capn qwerty wrote:So definetly the Elite then?
Re: X-Box 360
Actually, it's pretty easy to fill it up. If you installed a game on it for reduced load times, then that's most of the space taken up, if you have a few demos or large arcade games with that, you're hard drive is full.CivBase wrote:It's hard to fill up a 20 GB hard drive on an Xbox.
