Re: My pot induced Idea......
Time travel is impossible.
Say you trip and fall, you get a time machine and go back in time to stop yourself from tripping. Since you never tripped you never would have gone back in time to stop yourself from tripping, so you trip. Since you trip, you go back in time to stop yourself from tripping, etc.
Basically, if you change anythig it is instantly reverted back and infinitly looped.

no he is correct, it is called the time paradox. although it would not happen if you went into the future.

Re: My pot induced Idea......
I think I smell a logic loop.
Please explain how, in alternate universes, the time is mismatched?
And how does everything have to happen before it happens in our universe?

Assuming a linear, non-correcting timeline, as opposed to a linear correcting timeline or a multiverse.Angatar wrote:Time travel is impossible.

capn qwerty wrote:Personaly, I think Red vs Blues theory on time travel (well it might not be their theory but it's the one they used) seems the most plausible.
You remember when Church goes back in time to try and fix things, but we (or at least I) realize that he had caused those events in the first place by traveling through time in the future to try and fix things.
This makes the most sense to me anyway.
The moive Idiocracy also portrays a good one.
BTW... Your theory of germs causing a huge a effect millions of years away is true. But infinite universes? Time repeating itself.
Time is not a force.
A force must have an equal or opposite reaction.
Time has neither.
Right now time travel is impossible now or ever because someone would have come back from the future which has never happened.

Actually:Zaki90 wrote:

- The nature of time travel could be that it requires an anchor point, prohibiting time travel before the invention of the first time machine.
- Time travelers are probably really covert, to prevent deleting their future.
- Business monopoly could restrict time travel to trade, with the same effect as point #1.
- Time travel is so complex, it is beyond the technical capacity of us to achieve.
- Time travel may require exotic matter or black holes, meaning that the machine can only be built light-years away from earth.
- Time travel may require more energy than we can practically produce.
- We end up nuking ourselves before we can build a time machine.
- Plague gets us, with the same effect as point #7.
- Meteorite strikes, go to point #7.
- All of the previous three happen: A meteorite hits the Earth, wiping out Africa, western Asia, and Europe. Alien phages attack the remaining humans, who resort to nuclear weapons to contain the outbreak.
- Al Gore.
- All time travelers must be sent through the machine buck naked, because only organics can go back. Therefore, the brave (And incredibly stupid) travelers who do come back are often arrested for indecent exposure, and then thrown into insane asylums when they try to explain who they are.
- Time travelers are extremely unlucky, as the only wormhole to the past leads to Afghanistan, 2001. All time travelers are arrested and put to death for public nudity.
- Widespread use of the internet results in a pandemic outbreak of apathy, stalling scientific progress because all of the brilliant minds in this world are wasting their time explaining why we haven't encountered time travelers to fellow forum-goers.
- Time travel may require the subjects to spend an hour in the time machine for every hour they travel back in time. Ergo, NOBODY is willing to stay in a time machine for more than six months, and all travel to the past is limited to small, autonomous robots that go and study the dinosaurs. In this way, the lottery and sports betting cannot be manipulated by wanna-be Marty McFlys.
- The time machine may accidentally break into an alternate timeline where #10 happened, infecting the whole planet after the time machine's maiden voyage.
- This list is cached by Google for the next 1000 years. A future scientist finds it, and is alarmed by point #10 and passes the list along to his colleagues. They are so horrified that they quit their project (building the time machine), and instead use their grant money to investigate the healing powers of herbal tea.
- People like you end up handing out the grant money, and do not fund time travel because "If it can be done, somebody would already have come back in time and done it."

Another fun failure is when you're home alone and you think you can hear someone behind you.
