He did agitate the bottle so I'm guessing that's how it works.Gauz wrote:A product of supersaturation maybe?

It must be some sort of chemical reaction to his saliva.
But still that is just amazing.

Supersaturated with what? And its coke, wouldn't the Carbonation naturally upset the liquid enough to naturally knock it out of supersaturation.

Re: Self-Freezing Coke From Hong Kong!
You have to open it and take a sip before it works.
Maybe something has to do with that?
I'm not a chemistry guy, so i really have no idea...

Re: Self-Freezing Coke From Hong Kong!
the sip might just be a means of shaking it, without really shaking it.
because saying "shake it" will upset the carbonation and make the drink flat.

Re: Self-Freezing Coke From Hong Kong!
Back in january my friends and I left a bottle of coke in a snowdrift for a few days to see if anyone would find it. When we finally got the bottle back(no one found it) the coke had not frozen. We took it inside and opened it, and then within the range of ten to fifteen seconds the damn thing froze.
It was very dissapointing, as we then had no coke to drink with our pizza.

Re: Self-Freezing Coke From Hong Kong!
If you guys still care, i talked to my teach about this today.
The coke is actually below freezing and stored under pressure.
When the bottle is flipped over, the molecular structure that keeps the coke a liquid shifts a bit, causing the coke to react to the cold and freeze.
^.^
Science is coo brah.

Re: Self-Freezing Coke From Hong Kong!
So then, does the taking a sip before fliping the bottle over serve any purpose?
Or is it the fact that you are removing the cap thus having something to do with the pressure?
