Which do you like better?
FMA or FMA: Brotherhood?
I personally like the original FMA better. More emotion, a lot more interesting, but it doesn't follow the manga for those that read it. And I only read the first two books so it was never an interest for me to watch Brotherhood when it came out.
You decide.
I'll put up a clip of the first episode: To Challenge the Sun
Entire first episode of the original series - Watch it all or part of it. You choose.
Entire first episode of Brotherhood. Honestly, not as good and the voice actors are different, which makes me sadface - Watch it all or part of it. You choose.

I haven't watched a whole lot of brotherhood, but I really like the sort of... really dark, serious tone of the original series. I love that show so much.... It's the first Anime I ever really got into, and I love it so much...

Re: FMA or FMA: Brotherhood?
I saw original first and liked it.
I only watched Brotherhood through to like Ep10. It was really jarring how some of the events were so different than the original. I think it would've been good in its own right, but both together conflict, so I liked the original better cause idk I just do.

Re: FMA or FMA: Brotherhood?
I think it's good to note though too that the 'original' anime differs a lot from the real original, the manga.
If I understand correctly, then I think that Brotherhood has more simularites to the manga then the 2003/2004 anime. Such as the Homunculus. Could very well be wrong on that though, so take it with a grain of salt.
But they both differ a lot from the original source material. Which isn't a bad thing, just sayin'.

Re: FMA or FMA: Brotherhood?
So, why exactly did they make FMA, then go back and make Brotherhood, which was apparently just rehashing FMA?

Because, as Divine said, Brotherhood is meant to be a more accurate depiction of the original Manga. As I understand it, the original Anime is pretty accurate, up until the fight with Greed. That's when it really takes a different path.

Yes I've seen this fight as I've watched the entire 51 episodes. I still like the Brotherhood version better.ReconToaster wrote:

Never really got into FMA. I dabbled into some episodes of both and thought the FMA was ok.

Re: FMA or FMA: Brotherhood?
From what I can tell, this is how it went.
While I'm sure Brotherhood is still pretty good, I haven't seen the whole thing. I watched the first anime and, after seeing the frist few few episodes of Brotherhood, I think it flows better.
For me, Brotherhood rushed though everything and added jokes wherever possible. The story in Brotherhood, although still really good (FMA is the only anime that I've ever bothered to finish), just wasn't as compelling as the older anime. But hey, maybe it's just because I saw the older one first.
- The manga came first... obviously
- Bones thought "hey, this story is really good but I think we could re-arrange a few events to make it flow a better"
- FUNimation also liked the story and re-made the amine, but based on the original story to please some of the die-hard manga fans

I prefer the first one over brotherhood, the originals ending movie was godly.

You can be intelligent and have taste in anime. What, you telling me you didn't grow up watching Pokemon? Or Digimon? Or Dragonball? Seriously...you can't say you don't have taste in animeRingleader wrote:Is it possible to be intelligent and not have any tastes in anime?

I finished the whole first series in a weekend.
Haven't started brotherhood, so I can't give an honest vote for the poll yet.
Re: FMA or FMA: Brotherhood?
I also on a rule dislike anime, it always seems to be too 'camp' for my likings. However i think the first episode has intrigued me somewhat and i am currently downloading the first season to give it a chance and from a comment on it.

Re: FMA or FMA: Brotherhood?
Yah... I was like KrAzY and Bilco. I don't care much for most animes... but Maeve convinced me to watch an episode of FMA about a year ago and I loved it. I kinda wish they made more... but then I kinda don't. The biggest problem with most animes is that they don't understand that you can have too much of a good thing... well, that and if they want to make relateable characters, they can't give everyone hair from hell.
Re: FMA or FMA: Brotherhood?
what I lied most about the show was the fact that it seemed more about the morality of the characters and alchemy than it did about combat.....
as much as I like watching people fight, I dont like watching shows that are just about people fighting, because theres nothing really deep about that... this show however I really cared for the characters, and it was believeable, especially watching Ed struggle with his morality not only about killing, but also struggling with his guilt and wanting to get Al back in his body.
Ive NEVER reccommended an anime to somebody before... but I just reccommended this to somebody XD

Re: FMA or FMA: Brotherhood?
Oh yeah you hit the nail on that one.
This was also the way I felt when watching Death Note. Never before have I been more interested in the characters sence that show and this.
As for FMA characters, I have much more interest in the Homunculi and their creator, Father. Episodes that show more of them I enjoy the most. This is probably why I enjoy Brotherhood a little but more then the 2003 anime. It actually has the original Homunculi and sticks more to the source material, if only by a little.
Don't me get wrong though, how they interpreted the story and the changes they did make in the first anime is nothing short of amazing and very well done.
